Delegates greet a Schindler representative on hand to discuss the company’s work.

The High-Rise Innovation Host Room, organized by Schindler, focused on the company’s work to push the technical boundaries of what can be accomplished in a skyscraper. Much of the programming consisted of presentations and demonstrations on some of the technology that is revolutionizing the elevator, which is evolving to meet the demands of 21st century spaces. Many of Schindler’s leaders were on hand to discuss the company’s role in the changing vertical transportation landscape.

As the basic technology of an elevator is continually optimized, more attention is being paid to transform how elevators operate in conjunction with an overall transport plan for a building or complex. Much of the presentations in the host room focused on these technical innovations. John Mizon, Vice President, Advanced Programs, Schindler, discussed the various transportation initiatives designed to increase the elevator efficiency. He talked specifically about the changing approaches to elevator dispatching that focus on pre-sorting elevators based on advance knowledge of the destination for an individual rider. Though “destination control” has been theorized for a while, it is now being put into action on a large scale.

Additionally, Mizon discussed Schindler’s PORT (Personal Occupant Requirements Terminal) technology, which seeks to cater to the needs of individual users by determining their desired destination in advance of ordering an elevator. This technology has been recently rolled out in celluar form through the introduction of an app. Many Schindler representatives were eager to demonstrate this technology.
